An archaeological excavation near Hawk's Hill uncovered a Middle Iron Age settlement, including a series of large storage pits, postholes and a probable roundhouse gully, along with a separate Anglo-Saxon burial ground close by. The find is a reminder that people were living on this ground long before any of today's houses were built.
